Midnight in Paris has such a bold look. You might think that it is too much when you just look at the images. But if you watch the movie you get sucked in and the look feels totally natural. While creating such a strong look I think it is really important not do it “half way”. Take breaks. And not just watch a single image. Watch longer takes and get a feel for it. Colorist Joe Gawler has worked on a number of films such as A Most Violent Year, Arrival, The Lighthouse, Irresistible, Darjeeling Limited.
